Jermaine Benjamin – My Story
Every superhero has a backstory—so here is mine.
I’m Jermaine Benjamin, a Jamaican entrepreneur, programmer, and co-director of TechsolJA Interactive Limited. I grew up in East Kingston, Jamaica, where at an early age I dreamed of becoming a scientist, since at the time it was the popular aspiration for boys my age. Raised in a family that valued education, I attended Kingston College, where my journey into technology took a surprising turn. Ironically, I was encouraged to sit all my subjects except computing—after my computing instructor sent a strongly worded letter to my mother, insisting that I should never be allowed near a computer.
Despite that setback, my love for gadgets and computing never faded. In my teenage years, I experimented with small ventures, including an unsuccessful attempt at running a game shop to earn a little extra income. These experiences taught me resilience and gave me the hunger to build something meaningful.
Eventually, I matriculated to the University of the West Indies, not for computing but to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Sociology, my second passion. During my university years, I met my future business partner Leslie Knight, who shared my entrepreneurial vision and Christian principles. While studying, I continued to sharpen my interest in technology, blending my sociological insights with my passion for innovation.
After graduation, I worked in the technology sector. While those jobs were limiting and often frustrating, they strengthened my desire to become my own boss and create solutions that matter. Those experiences were the refining fire that pushed me toward entrepreneurship.
In 2023, Leslie Knight and I co-founded TechsolJA Interactive Limited, headquartered at the Technology Innovation Centre at the University of Technology, Jamaica. Our company focuses on building innovative software solutions for small and medium-sized businesses, helping them digitize operations, attract new customers, and thrive in the modern economy.
At TechsolJA Interactive Limited, we are guided by Christian values, a belief in innovation, and a mission to empower businesses and individuals across Jamaica and beyond.
From a young boy in East Kingston once told to stay away from computers, to Jermaine Benjamin – Jamaican entrepreneur, innovator, and co-director of TechsolJA Interactive—my journey has been one of perseverance, faith, and purpose.
